Congratulations to the High Country GRU Champs 3rd year in a row!
Posted by admin on: Sunday 17 April @ 12:38:57 (read: 237 times)

Wow, that’s how you have to start this. We started the game feeling pretty confident with our team. We were at home, had 22 players available, and had practiced well leading up to the game.
Then the kickoff, right from the first minutes, Chattanooga had us on our heels. They played High Country Rugby. Kick deep down the open lanes, cover the kicks well with good defense and wait for the other team to make a mistake on there side of the field. It worked earlier in the year for us, and it worked for Chattanooga.

High Country 24 Defeats Atlanta Renegades 0
Posted by crofty on: Tuesday 15 March @ 17:02:57 (read: 139 times)

High Country and the Atlanta Renegades is always a battle worth watching and playing. This game was no exception. A great cross town rivalry has been created by the two Atlanta teams with a trophy now being tussled over each time the two sides meet. It was a great day for rugby at the pinnacle of Rugby Stadiums in Atlanta, Walker Park. As the crowd swelled to in excess of 50 people and 60 dogs, the tension could be cut with a butter knife as both sides warmed up.

High Country Bests Birmingham 25, 5!
Posted by admin on: Tuesday 26 October @ 20:05:51 (read: 270 times)

Birmingham obviously underestimate our rag tag side we put out there... The unprepardness and chaos of the field committee only added to their overconfidence...With only one officer present, and no posts up 45 minutes from the game, we lulled them to over confidence.
The forwards outruckecd, strategic kicking throughtout, and sound gain line play from the backs kept Birmingham off balance, and on the defensive....

HIGH COUNTRY 33, OLD WHITE 0
Posted by admin on: Saturday 25 September @ 02:53:08 (read: 300 times)
|
After supplying extra bodies to Columbus for the warm up game, High Country took the pitch against Old White for two 30-minute halves. From the get-go, the men in blue were able to pound the gain line through solid tackling and strong, efficient, north-south running and rucking. Hats off to the forwards for being more agressive at the break downs and wanting to keep posession of the rucked ball. As fitness is still playing a part, panic was never a part of the game plan. Lack of oxygen did not dumb down the play on Saturday. Solid defense of the fringe and outer gain line was complimented by gang-tackling and flat preparation.

2-0 and that ain’t bad

It’s not exactly an about face. Call it a shift in attitude.
High Country spring 2004 season has begun with a vengeance. Over the past 2 weekends the “boys in blue” have managed to rack up 124 points. While only conceding 3 points.
The first game of the season, pit High Country against Columbus. After a relatively slow start, High Country got on track and went on to win 36-3. Strong performance were delivered by all players involved. The tight 5, for ball control and great individual efforts from some key backs. Special recognition for Cheese and Benji as our 2 men of the match.

Congratulations on a hard fought win over Columbus on Saturday. The score being 31-15 or so. According to most, we played in there half of the field most of the game. They scored late, and we answered, and played some of the best Rugby this team has played lately.

Good effort vs. Knoxville. Just fell a little short. Lost 24-23. Played many new players, who got some needed experience.
Thanks to all that came.

1st game of fall season, with alot of new players. Lost to Columbus 14-13.
We played well early, but didn't ruck well, and lost in second half. Some
good support on long runs.

1) We are 2-0 in matrix play
2) 2-0 means squat if we lose to our toughest opponent, Charleston.
With that in mind I would encourage everyone to continue to come to training. Our next matrix game is 3/22 but we cannot afford to take a break.

High Country 11 Columbia 0
Posted by admin on: Monday 10 February @ 16:48:12 (read: 390 times)

Our Matrix Season is off to a good start! We beat Columbia at home 11-0. I would immediately like to recognize every single one of our Forwards for an outstanding game!! They were the unanimous choice for Man of the Match. It was absolutely the best our pack has played in 2 seasons.
The extra work being put in by all of our forwards showed on Saturday. And getting to the pitch more than 20 minutes before kick off was definitely a good thing. We got our plays and calls down; we got warmed up; and everybody got their head in the game from the start.

High Country loses tough one to Knoxville
High Country traveled to Knoxville this weekend to lose a tough one to the Possums 27-13. We didn't travel strong and we came out flat and did not execute well for most of the game, but that is no excuse. The first half was pretty even with High Country leading 13-9. The second half however was all Knoxville.

Game Recap HC 50 - ow 10
Posted by admin on: Tuesday 22 October @ 15:20:21 (read: 463 times)

Saturday was good turnout. I was worried about being able to field a team, but a couple of old boys and a couple of Renegades came out and we also had a number of people show up who had indicated (by not responding to my email) that they would not be available.
Man of the Match was Benji. Who played his usual intense game and scored a couple of tries while setting up a couple more. Runner up to Cheese for finally selling that fake and going 40 meters for a try.

UGA Match
Posted by admin on: Friday 13 September @ 16:09:21 (read: 515 times)
|
Well we won.
It wasn't pretty and I hope it serves as a wake up call. We were again consistently out rucked by a smaller team. In addition our tackling was very poor and we did not utilize our game plan and play to our strengths. By all rights we should have lost that came by 2 or 3 tries. We lacked discipline and played with little intensity or focus. You were there so I don't need to say any more. On to the good stuff.
Man of the Match for the first Match goes to Mitch Jaffe.

The following contributed by Buddha, our beloved coach:
Thanks to everyone that came out on Saturday. We played a good match against
a scrappy Columbus side that was bolstered by some strong play by High
Country Whores. Man of the match for the Backs was Tom Huntington. Tom had
an excellent game offensively and defensively. He also played a little loose
forward too! The man of the match for the Forwards was The Forwards. This
was the first time this Spring that our pack game out of the gate fast, hard
and focused. It was great! We set Columbus back on their heels from the
start and they never really got settled down after that.

They were playing harder and with more enegy than us. Our experience in the backs and forwards showed by being patient and letting the game come to us.

High Country Takes Bronze in Georgia Games
Posted by admin on: Monday 16 July @ 09:23:23 (read: 332 times)
|
Dateline: Sunday July 15, 2001.
High Country RFC once again showed great resolve and fortitude in bringing home the Bronze in the plate division at the Georgia Games.
After a tough opening defeat to Old White. High Country bounced back to rattle off three straight wins and take home the bronze. Wins against Augusta, Georgia Tech, and the final against a much bigger and youthful Georgia side gave the aging but experienced High Country team a great day to display what grit and determination can accomplish.
More than 87,000 Georgians competed in the Georgia Games in 2000. Click here for more information.
