Saturday was good turnout. I was worried about being able to field a team, but a couple of old boys and a couple of Renegades came out and we also had a number of people show up who had indicated (by not responding to my email) that they would not be available.
Man of the Match was Benji. Who played his usual intense game and scored a couple of tries while setting up a couple more. Runner up to Cheese for finally selling that fake and going 40 meters for a try.
Over all the patch work backline did well for not having played together much if at all. Matt coming in off the bench provided a nice spark and Rich Ferry had another strong day. Rookie Terry scored a nice try in his first game for us too. Darryl who really wants to be a forward had a great day pounding the centers along with Mike Draper. Both made punishing runs and solid tackles.
The forwards rucked very well against a larger pack. We hit rucks in groups and drove over the ball. Ronnie cleared ball quickly and we really didn't lose much possession. Lineouts were much improved. Mac looks like he may be one of our new jumpers with a solid performance.
We still need to work on work on a couple of things, namely penalty plays, kick receiving and what to do on a 22m drop. All were pretty shabby and must become instinctual. Overall it was a satisfying win. Congratulations to everyone who made it out and contributed.
Knoxville is this weekend and we have some things to work on so please attend practice this week.
Cheers!
