UGA Match

Well we won.

It wasn't pretty and I hope it serves as a wake up call. We were again consistently out rucked by a smaller team. In addition our tackling was very poor and we did not utilize our game plan and play to our strengths. By all rights we should have lost that came by 2 or 3 tries. We lacked discipline and played with little intensity or focus. You were there so I don't need to say any more. On to the good stuff.

Man of the Match for the first Match goes to Mitch Jaffe.

Mitch saved a game turning try by-- and see if this sounds familiar-

securing a ball
maintaining his feet
without getting turned or getting the ball tied up
for about 5 seconds
in a three on one situation
until his support could get there and bail him out.

If that try had been scored we would have lost. In addition to a fine individual effort, it was a good example of applying what you've learned in practice to a game situation. Good Job Mitch!

In the second match, Man of the Match is a three way tie: Spence for his relentless, drive killing tackles; Bobby Frost at Flanker who made a living scooping up loose ball and Rupert for being everywhere on the pitch and appearing like magic to make the needed stop. Special mention to the entire B side pack also did a great job of maintaining possession in the loose.

We had great numbers out and I hope it continues. We will try to have two full games each of our scheduled matches for the remainder of the Fall. I hope this will encourage everyone to come to practice on a regular basis, knowing they will be rewarded with ample game time.

Our depth is beginning to show. There are very few positions where we do not have quality players ready to contend for starting slots. This is exactly what we need. By the time the Spring Matrix rolls around I fully expect for each position to be up for grabs on a weekly basis!

Next Thursday we will hold elections at practice. You can go to the website to read about the responsibilities of each office. Please spend some time this week thinking about how you would like to see the club run and who you think can best get the job done.

Let's focus at practice next week and drill with intensity. We can play much better rugby than we currently do.

Cheers!

PS- If you want to come out to Woodward Academy this weekend and be part of the practice squad for the Coaching Clinic it will be very educational for you. Saturday from 9:30 - 2:00 and Sunday from 8:30 - 1:00 or so.
