Mundie On Walk-About
Posted by admin on: Saturday 10 January @ 12:23:36 (read: 146 times)

To All:
I hope everyone had a great holiday. Jeff and I truly had an unconventional one: first, traipsing through the amazing country of Cambodia, followed by the many experiences in Bangladesh & Calcutta, India. We spent Christmas Eve in a Bangladeshi town on the Myanmar border. Christmas is a public holiday in Bangladesh known as "Big Day", but in actuality, except for the civil servants enjoying a day off, it is like any other day & so we quietly celebrated with the closest thing to a turkey dinner we could find, chicken curry! Our New Year Eve festivities took place in an equally obscure town. A bit more exciting than Christmas, rickshaw driver carried lanterns through the dark street at the stroke of midnight, beating drums, shaking tambourines and lighting firecrackers to usher in the New Year. Not quite the traditional Western holiday season to which we have become accustomed, but at least unique!

An Update From Our Man on Walk-About
Posted by admin on: Thursday 11 December @ 09:14:08 (read: 175 times)
|
Australia and SE Asia Update To All: Australia is a country teeming with natural beauty. The stunning remote outback, the unbelievably beautiful Great Ocean Road, and the picturesque Sydney harbor are all sights to behold. Australia, however, meant more to us than just beautiful scenery and unusual animals. We spent the trip visiting good friends: old mates of Jeff's from his time in Sydney and those met while traveling in Asia. Everywhere we received a warm welcome and had lots of laughs. Thanks Jackie & Juddy, Rosie & Paul, Sarah & Martin, Kylie & Paul, Michelle & Kim, Vickie & Chris, Mattie & Chrissie and (why not...) "ex-con" Mike Hill too :), your hospitality truly made Australia a memorable experience. Unfortunately for the Australian rugby fan, no amount of Waltzing Matilda verses could help the Australian Wallabies win the final of the Rugby World Cup. Better luck in 2007 guys!

What do you get when you cross a rugby ball with a web-cam? The BBC have an article about a polytechnic in New Zealand that is in the process of creating a camera that is small and light enough to fit inside a rugby ball. Boy, are you going to get a headache when watching rugby on TV now.

My parents relayed this bit of news to me (with a bit of pride I might add). The plane that went down in PA and by all accounts had the cabin rushed by passengers amongst those those helping to stop these madman IS a rugger. I haven't heard anything to this effect but if Harriet proclaimed this to be so it must be.
Take care all,
