Thanks to everyone that came out last Saturday for the B side Match against Emory. High Country played a very scrappy Emory side that showed a suprising amount of talent. Joe, Jimmy, Will and others got their first taste of a full 80 minute game and the coaches got to see what kind of new talent and depth we have. I have to say it looks pretty good!
Emory scored first to start the match, catching High C napping. With that wake up call High C answered back to tie and then take the lead with a pair of tries. At half it was 24-10 High Country, but Emory was playing a lot closer than the score indicates.
Emory opened the second half with a beautiful break away try, but High Country answered immediately with one of it's own. Late in the second half Emory pulled to within 7, but 3 quick tries at the end of the half put High Country out of reach. The final, 69- 37, was not indicative of how close this match really was.
Man of the Match for the Forwards was Butter, who showed consistently solid play in his first game as a flanker. Matt Reynold's hard charging runs for both High Country, and later for Emory, earned him Man of the Match honors for the Backs.
Thanks again to everybody that came out. It was a great day for rugby and a great day of rugby. Congratulations to Emory for fielding a full side and giving us a good match.
Cheers!
