Subject: Rugby After thoughts
HCRFC -
I just wanted to personally thank everyone that made the effort to
finish the season strong, including those that did not join us, but
went to practice because they believed in the team. Also, it was good
that we left that garbage attitude back in Atlanta,
before we left for Danville. I feel that the trip was worth it.
This team should never forfeit their rightful chance at national
recognition. Trust me, competitive Rugby is a finite opportunity.
You never know what happens in life that will keep you from ever tying
up the boots again. That's also probably one of the reasons
that you had 7 guys over 34 that were in the lineup.
I realize that there were some raised eyebrows when I started involving
myself in the team at the end of the season. Better late
than never I guess. That being said, thank you to our coaches and
officers. I think it started with Mike Drapeau's
100 page play book and moved solidly from there. Between 2 new sets of
jersey's, a Golf Tournament, the Brew House adding our
logo to their wall and turning into a true Rugby Bar, a great season,
blast phone messages about practices and the unveiling of
one of the best and palest lineout men in the Southeast, it has been an
exceptional Spring. This team has an amazing nucleus of
players, coaches and supporters of High Country R.F.C. and this coming
summer and fall is a time to increase those numbers.
Whether or not you got or are getting married, graduating or even moving
over the next 6 months, it should be upon
everyone's shoulders to recruit one new member for the team. Numbers
and commitment have tested this team's resolve
during the playoff's now two years in a row and I think Danville was a
bitter sweet experience. All that went to Danville realized
how well High Country can play when playing as a team. Ego's and
selfish play were left on the sidelines and I believe our performance
was the best full 80 of any match this season, regardless of the score.
We probably should be arranging our trip to Omaha right now.
Anyway, thanks boys for a great season and see you on the 7's pitch
sometime.
