What about Terry with the 300+ pounder Saturday night. that one should
go in the record books.

It should be mentioned that Trevor scored as well...
-------------- Original message --------------
High Country went to the Division III Finals in Danville
Virginia, and played Memphis for a chance to play Daytona in the Finals.
We had 8 new players from last year, and 12 new starters. Only Gabe,
Christian and Terry started the same positions as last year. That was
good news, last years High Country version was outplayed and dominated
by Memphis. This year's team would not be.
From the opening kickoff, it was a hard hitting game. We
lost our starting Hooker on the 1st play with a broken nose. Trevor came
in to replace Raj. Memphis dominated the scrums and pushed us around
from the beginning. They moved as one. We finally were able to lock
out and hold them, but they were very strong in the Scrum Downs.
Like the rest of our matrix season this spring, the Line
Outs belonged to High Country. Pale Mitch, Rob and Andres again
dominated the line outs, offensively and defensively. Trevor's throws
were on the mark too.
Where the game was lost, was in our inability to
recognize and defend the over load. Memphis consistently overloaded the
back line with forwards, and we didn't adjust and defend that very well.
Mike and Hipp had solid games, and Kevin Hix came on to
relive Spencer after he had back spasms. Gabe Gullia was force on
offense and defense at #8 and played at a select side level. Ronnie
relived Lee after 50+ minutes, and both played solid and smart.
We need to mention Cheese's try, a 10 meter Hike that
seemed in slow motion. Does a 300+ man really need a fake?
Our backs were lead by Mitch Jaffe, with 2 new centers;
Brian Johnson and Keir Cooper. Brian is consistently showing the
potential we've all seen, and Keir Cooper and his right foot have found
a home at High Country. Wings and fullback played solid and aggressive.
The last play of the game started on our 22 with a
Memphis Line-Out. Again they couldn't get the ball in, we received a
free kick. Next stoppage in play was game over according to the ref. We
traveled the length of the field, and play stopped at the 20 meter line
of Memphis when the ball squirted out of the ruck, and we couldn't
control it.
My Man of the Match: Forwards: Gabe Gullia and Pale
Mitch. Backs: Brian Johnson and Keir Cooper.
1. Andres
2. Raj/Trevor
3. Rob/Rick
4. Pale
5. Mike/Cheese
6. Hipp
7. Spencer/Hix
8. Gabe
9. Lee/Ronnie
10. Mitch
11. Terry
12. Brian
13. Keir
14. Kristian
15. Kenya/Matt
Final score was 26-20, and Memphis was relieved. They
said after the game was all they could think was High Country was going
to win on the last play of the game like Chattanooga. Memphis lost to
Daytona in the Finals, with 2 men in the Sin Bin. They said after that
they really didn't expect the dogfight they had against High Country,
and it took a lot out of them for the Final against Daytona.
Jim Deville and I watched the Daytona vs. Jacksonville
game; felt they were good, but very beatable.
Let's try to take another step in 2006, with our full
compliment of players; we could be the USA South Champions.
Good work, thanks for all the effort, and we'll start
7's practice on Wednesday 18th @ 7pm. Location to be decided. I will
send out another email next week about 7's.
Thanks,
Paco
Our tackling in the rooms Saturday was better than the
field.
