High Country Wins Season Opener Against Bucks
Final Score – High Country 97, Atlanta Bucks 3
After several training sessions, High Country finally took to the pitch this past Saturday at Coan Middle School. From the get-go, HC was able to control the gain line and make a plethora of line breaks against The Bucks. The fitness training showed through as those players who made the breaks were able to find support behind our opponents gain line. Many “pretty” tries were set up by our back row of Reid, Troy and John. Pleasantly surprising was that other forwards followed these hard runners and were fed scores. Bad Mitch had two of these and ended up with blood in his pants (samples to be taken later).
Several new players entered the late stages of the game and contributed to the win including Tyrus, Evan, Paul and Kevin (sorry to those names not included).
The scrum-half, fly-half combo of Benji and Matt provided stability around the breakdowns and lots of ball control. Several players, mostly Reid, were able to capitalize from nice inside balls and straight running. Centers tackled well as did most all the forwards. Brian Johnson and Troy Albright were named men of the match for their respective work-rates around the pitch.
All in all, it is believed that 15+ tries were scored and the unselfish play of the best players on the team, in setting up their mates, was a pleasure to watch.
More hard work is needed in regards to some set-piece and rucking play. Get fit. See you at practice.
